Muslim Women's Network UK in partnership with
FORWARD, is conducting research to explore the issue of spiritual abuse experienced by Muslim women within family settings and in their interactions with religious or faith leaders. While much attention has been given to child sexual abuse in religious institutions, the experiences of Muslim women facing coercion, control, or manipulation using religious teachings remains largely overlooked.
By focusing on adult women, this research addresses a critical gap in the literature, highlights the gendered dimensions of spiritual abuse, and aims to inform safeguarding practices and the empowerment of Muslim women. Gathering lived experiences will help develop informed recommendations and improve understandings on the different forms spiritual abuse can take.
Participants completing the survey will have the chance to win one of three £50 Love2Shop vouchers, awarded at random. Those willing to provide an in-depth interview about their experiences will also receive a £50 voucher for their time.
Some questions in this survey may be sensitive and could cause distress. If you are affected, free faith and culturally-sensitive counselling is available. Please email us at contact@mwnuk.co.uk after completing the survey to request support.
Your views will help us to improve understanding and ensure that signs of spiritual abuse are recognised when victims seek support. To share your views, by completing the
