Participants are needed for a Master's study looking at Muslim women's experiences with BACP counsellors. This study is being conducted by Noor Shah, a master's student at the University of South Wales. There is limited research exploring Muslim women's experiences in counselling, and even smaller looking specifically at boards such as BACP who primarily do private practice counselling. The aim is to understand Muslim women's experiences of counselling with BACP-registered therapists. It focuses on how cultural and religious identity may influence what counselling feels like and how it is received.

Participation involves an interview through teams, that takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes. The interview will be recorded, transcribed and then anonymised. Recording will be deleted after transcription. Participation is voluntary and you have the right to with draw up to a week after your interview.

To take part in the study you must meet the following requirements:

  • A Muslim woman living in the UK.
  • someone who has previously attended (more than 12 months ago) but not currently in counselling with a BACP-registered practitioner (The therapist's website/ promotional material would highlight their BACP registration status if they have it).
  • someone who has access to email and the internet and are willing to be video and audio recorded.
  • Aged between 18 and 75 and fluent in spoken English.

Taking part gives you the opportunity to share your experiences, you may help increase awareness, inform counsellor training, and support more culturally responsive practice in the future.
